Disc Prolapse/Slipdisc

Disc Prolapse, commonly referred to as a Slip Disc, is a condition involving one of the discs between the bones of the spine. Spinal discs act as cushions between the vertebrae and help the spine absorb loads while allowing movement. When part of a disc bulges or protrudes beyond its normal boundary, it can sometimes irritate or compress nearby nerves, resulting in back or neck pain and, in some cases, symptoms extending into the arm or leg.

At Rapid Recovery Physio, we provide individualized physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs designed to help patients understand their condition, improve movement, build physical capacity, and gradually return to their normal activities.

What Is a Disc Prolapse

The spine is made up of a series of vertebrae with discs positioned between them. These discs have a softer inner portion surrounded by a stronger outer layer.

A disc prolapse occurs when part of a spinal disc moves beyond its usual boundary. Depending on its location and whether nearby nerves are affected, it may cause local pain or symptoms that travel along an arm or leg.
